Business in Western Balkan Region – The “Mini-Schengen” Initiative

The idea is to boost free movement of people, goods, services and capital in Western Balkan region, with (hopefully) the inclusion of the other three countries - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo - in the initiative.

Back in October 2019, three Western Balkan countries, Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia, have announced their initiative towards a single market in the Western Balkan region, which is nowadays referred to as "Mini-Schengen". The idea is to boost free movement of people, goods, services and capital in Western Balkan region, with (hopefully) the inclusion of the other three countries - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo - in the initiative.

There are indeed challenges against the success of the initiative due to the unsettled political issues among certain countries in the region, but it is hoped that such an economic integration would bring about economic growth in the region [Read More].

The development of the initiative is indeed closely followed by the SMEs in the region, as free movement of capital and workforce present various opportunities for growth and transformation of SMEs.
